The 2D, side-scrolling MOBA, Awesomenauts, has been kicking around for some years now (nearly 5 in fact). And here we are, two expansions and a butt-ton of updates later, and the game is going free-to-play. At least on PC, no word on the console fate of the game.

When the update hits next month, expect new unlockables in the form of medals, droppods, and portraits. Both your account and your awesomenauts will level up from playing, which will grant rewards along the way.  And for new players, the developers are also adding a brand new Tutorial to the game.

Existing players aren’t being left out in the dust, either. Everyone who’s played the game prior to April 26th will automatically gain Founder status for an exclusive portrait and medal. And if you own Awesomenauts and the two expansions, you’ll receive the “All Nauts Pack,” which will grant you all current heroes and all heroes to come until the end of time.

You can read up on the impending update and free-to-play shift on the official site if you so choose.
