Wizards of the Coast has revealed in an interview with PCGamesN that we can expect little delay between the physical version of MTG and the upcoming digital version, Magic: the Gathering Arena. WotC wants to have same day and date with the digital version of the game.
But this isn’t necessarily new or unexpected. Magic Online also received cards at about the same time as the physical version did, sometimes even earlier by a day, and in fact, the practice has caused issues for WotC in the past when unreleased cards were leaked due to trying to get them into the online games in time for their release.
Still, though, it’s a lot to ponder, especially with how so much in the game industry (physical or digital) resides on not spoiling stuff. Fortunately, Blizzard doesn’t have to worry about a physical version of Hearthstone to maintain.
