Before Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode took the world by storm (which, oddly enough, isn’t an understatement) there was Save the World, the game’s PvE mode.

It entered paid early access in 2017 and was originally going to be free-to-play sometime this year, but as the astute readers out there may have noticed, this year has but two months left it, and mum’s been the word on Save the World’s free-to-play release.

This week, however, Epic published a blog on the state of development for the mode. A few key takeaways include that the game won’t be free-to-play this year, but fear not, good things come to those who wait. Expect some front-end improvements to the part of the game in between when you’re killin’ zombies (easily the roughest part of the game), and there will be a new hero system that the team will go into more detail about later.
