The full ramifications of Intel’s Meltdown vulnerability are still waiting to be seen. We know that as those holes are plugged, it might very well impact performance across a wide range of games.
One of the first causalities it seems (or at least one of the first injuries) is Fortnite. Because the game utilizes cloud services to hoist up the back end, the Meltdown fix is causing issues for a lot of their systems, including the login ones. So if you’re trying your best to either Save the World or Battle Royale, and you’re thinking to yourself, “Boy, something doesn’t seem to be quite right here,” then right you are.
Below you’ll find the tweet, or visit the forum post (also included in the tweet) for additional info.
PSA: Our cloud services were affected by updates required to mitigate the Meltdown vulnerability. We rely on cloud services to run our backend and we may experience further service issues in the next few days due to ongoing updates.
