Another year, another animal representing another phase of Hearthstone’s life. It’s the Year of the Dragon, marked by the first expansion of 2019 – Rise of Shadows. There’s new cards, new gameplay updates, old cards going into the vault, and a whole lot of card flinging.
This year, three cards are going into the Hall of Fame – Doom Guard, Divine Favor, and Naturalize. I haven’t played Hearthstone in literally over a year, but I can only imagine what’s in store for the game now that these staples will no longer be, well, staples. Two other cards are going into the Hall of Fame, too, newer cards but nonetheless deck-defining – Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane. In addition, supporting cards of those two cards (Gloom Stag, Black Cat, Glitter Moth, and Murkspark Eel) are also going into the vault. Blizzard might be turning into Disney, shoving all this stuff in the vault.
There are some other changes, however minor. Check out the official blog post about Year of the Dragon for more.
As for Rise of Shadows, there are 135 new cards, with new mechanics, and new good times to be had.
