Don't be Tempted by this Game.

I have spent a large amount of time playing APB Reloaded and have quit playing it for about 2 years now. The game is honestly a special snowflake in the market with few good competitors. The only good comparison would be Grand Theft Autos 4 and 5 and they are obviously buy to play games when APB is Free to Play. You should avoid APB Reloaded though because the amount of money GamersFirst want from you is ridiculous and the worst system of free to play is implemented in this game. Weapons you purchase in the game are rented. Yes you can buy them with ingame currency but they are both of lesser quality and the advantage of purchasing a weapon with real money is there, the weapon is permanent and it will have either better mods or more mod slots than its in-game cash variant. These cash weapons are not fairly priced either as weapons can range from $20-$60 USD, and yes that is all for just one gun. From reading the forums this game survives primarily through whales. There is always a select group who always defend the game as not being pay to win, yet these people are also shown to have all the purchased weapons. The community is really just a bunch of elitist who think having a gold rank makes them superior to other players. The game has a ranking system where you can either be Bronze, Silver, and Gold, this is tied to your level and others can see what level and rank you are. Ranks can go up or down depending on performance, and it has caused to community to become toxic with a fixation on gold. There is also the problem with hackers in the game. You will run into players who use aim bots to pretty much hit you before you see it coming, it was a large problem with the game. There is also the latency problems with the game where lag will become you enemy for this game.

Now that I have gone through the negatives I will say that the game was really good when you ignored all these things that drove me away from the game. The game is setup like GTA but with cops and robbers. One factions acts as criminals that will do crimes in these mission like quests. A group of enforcers will then be notified by the system or they could manually intervene to start the matchup. The other fun thing about this game was customization, it beats many mmos in just how detailed you can be with your character. You may run into players who look like Ronald Mcdonald, Naruto characters, DBZ characters (Including Piccolo) and all sorts of wacky looking characters or the skimpy looking females that have a unique look to them.

This may be my longest review, but I have spent a fair amount of time on this game, 547 hours according to steam and can say that the game is ruined by the way Gamersfirst implemented their restrictions on the game. There is simply to many for a free player to compete. Customization is limited on a non subbed account, exp, earnings, and reputation are reduced and the Cash Shop is just a greed machine, $20 for a school girl outfit, $60 for a pack that gives you special parts to make your car look better and the $20 simple gun to the $60 fully decked gun. There is also the rng boxes people have gambled $100+ for a special gun.

UPDATE: Servers are garbage yet again. Constant latency spikes for short amount of times, disconnects and district crashes on extreme cases. GG G1

I've been playing this game for a while. Started it like 4 years ago, and kept me around for 3 years.
Nowdays i just keep checking out if it had any mentionable updates, or something that would make me play it again...and as you have guessed, it doesn't have any.

This was a relatively good Free to Play game that i could enjoy back in the day. Great concept, mediocre execution, still fun.
The problem is that the devs just don't care about it at all. There hasn't been anything new added to this game in the last 2 years other than ARMAS weapons, cars and skins (ARMAS is the marketplace of items being sold for real money) No new contacts, no new unlockables, no new maps, missions, nothing.
They said it's hard to make new stuff with the current engine, so they are going to update to Unreal Engine 3.5, that will make it easier to update the game with new content. This was announced like 2 years ago. Since then, all we saw are a few screenshots of Social District, and a shorter video of it with a bit higher foilage density.
They said the game is going to be released on consoles with the new engine this summer. Now it's April 2016. And still no engine update.

The clienside perfomance is terrible since the game has been released, but the servers are now working somewhat properly, thanks to merges, hardware updates and the DDoS attackers have stopped, or the publisher/devs have deployed some protection.

Matchmaking is non-existent, the few newbies who want to give a chance to this game will get put into mission against full-ranked gold players in premade groups while using Teamspeak. The missions themselves are seriously unbalanced most of the time, not just because of the garbage matchmaking, but the locations of objectives, their placement, etc are seriously flawed. Perfect example would be the Financial district's "Auschwitz", aka Ferjando Shipping, a building complex with a seperate rooftop, that has only ONE way to it, but overlooks the whole courtyard and the other rooftops, so basically if the defense get there, (and they know the place) it's instawin most of the time.

The weapons are mostly balanced. The most viable weapons, which are really powerful can be achieved/rented for ingame money, like the STAR (G36C), PMG (UZI), HVR (Sniper Rifle), OBIR (3-burst mid-to-long range weapon) Back in the day it felt straight-up P2W (when nano -aka Tec9- first came out, or the Scout that did the same damage as the heavy sniper rifle, but you could sprint with it as well), now it's a lot better. There are still some anomalies, like the ATAC rifle, that can basically beat everything up to midrange, or the DMR, which has two versions: the "free" for ingame money, and the item shop one, which is basically the same, only it does way more damage against cars. So technically it's P2W compared to it's free version, but it's not a really viable weapon even with this little buff. Majority of the item-shop weapons are just reskins of what's available for ingame money. Some of them are from crates called Joker Mystery Boxes, and players can trade/market this type of guns between themselves. And last, there is a special currency called Joker Tickets, which can be achieved by completing certain goals/events in the game, and they can be used to rent some item-shop weapons for 7 days.

    The community is utter garbage, one of the most toxic ones i've ever seen. People will constantly complain, swear, rage-message, use every kind of shortcuts they can to get an advantage. Some examples for this;
    - Item hold mission, basically a capture the briefcase. The map is never limited to some smaller segments, so people can still move around at the whole district while playing. Sometimes they just grab the case, and start running away with a car. As a lowrank, you have no carsurf, no explosives, nothing, except a crappy light machine gun that may or may not help you stop them. If they are highranks with said equipment, it's instawin for them.
    - Deatmatch mission. One team has to reach certain number of kills to win. They get the lead, and run away. See above for the other details.
    - During missions, all the other players in the district still can interact with you, see you, make contact with your car, etc. Some might just block entrances, objectives, ladders with a car, to help the other team. Or they can follow you around and give out informations about your and your teammates' positions to their friends/clanmates. Seen this crap several times as well.

Only try it if you are slightly masochistic, and you don't mind getting gangbanged every other mission, or you have some more experienced friends who can carry you till you get the hang of it.

First time you play this game you get the feeling of playing GTA. There are cars,Wep, The gang fights, missions. I think they tried to make a free to play online GTA.

A fun game for a limited time.

The game's customs is what makes it fun. I've seen players spend most of there time (including myself) creating some of the most creative designs, from flying toaster cats to adult explicit themes. The gameplay you have to have patience with your self and the game, cause if you dont you will get tired of it real quick. There are some weapons that are paid only which gives the feeling of pay to win, but you can try them by grinding for a special currency called joker tickets. If your looking for a fun clone of GTA this is as close it as you can get.

    Fun to play

While most will disagree, I find APB Reloaded to be a fun f2p mmo. You can earn most guns/clothes/vehicles all from just playing the game. There is not an MMO out today that has as much customization of your character/clothes/vehicles, you can create designs for your clothes, tattoos, and custom paint jobs for cars.

I personally have spent money in the cast shop, but when I play a game I have fun in, it's only natural to want to support it. I have been rewarded a couple times with very nice items.

Plus a new game engine is coming out by the end of the year, that should bring lots of new players!

    Its

Welp I guess i should explain a little of my history with this game, I was a beta tester for apb reloaded (not the original) the game at the time looked great and had the potential to be better then or equal to GTA. I played this game for a very long time with a friend, until for some reason we both quit the game. I didn't remember why we left, It was vague but I felt sick just thinking about the game. 3 years later I felt like going down memory lane to see if the game is still kicking. I got my friend back into trying it again. And once I press the play button, it all started to comeback to me like a fever dream. With a slap to the face the game reminded me why this game was terrible. After 3 years its still the most unbalanced, exploited, laggy, and grief filled game I remember. Seeing that the loading screens with the dial-up sound effects are still in the game makes me vomit.

Maybe I should go over what I loved about this game before kicking it in the balls with fury of a thousand suns.

    Pros:
Customization- This is probably the best level of customization I've ever seen in game, even AAA games fail to bring this level of control to how I want my character to look. Its a pretty simple system and I'm surpised not many games do it. Theres custom cloths, cars, themes, and etc. It really is where I uses to waste alot of my time in the game.

Match Making- This is gray area for me because I both hate and like the match making. In apb you choose to have a death match(fight club), or go into the districts to have some random match making as you drive around when your ready. I spent most of my time in districts because that much more familiar to me then fight club. Drive around with a friend then randomly a call goes out to steal some stuff or defend some stuff or keep some stuff ( Mainly a crim by the way). Its exciting to be thrown into a match, but its bad when its far away or when its already being taken.

Now that I'm done taking about what I like about the game, lets go over why I left this game.

    Cons:

LAGGY- Even during launch this game wasn't this laggy, I tried looking into why this is. Apparently they've been getting ddos attacked for a while. How many times? I don't know but enough to keep lag constant in this game.

Punkbuster- I've been gone a very long time, but I'm sure that punkbuster security still sucks right.

Cars- Car are still feel like crap on the road, I maybe able to tolerate the cars in this game. That does not mean I like them in anyway.

Guns- Some people tried to convince me that this game isn't p2w, but when I saw my friend go from 2 or 4 kills to 8 or 11 a game with just using a code for a weapon from the market place. I gonna say thats bs, the premium weapons have less recoil, some have more damage, mods, etc. And if you get to rockets ro gernade launchers say goodbye to balance because they are crazy.

Character modifications- Clotting agent is the only one you need, kevlar is worthless and makes you slow.

Districts: After all this time still only 2 districts waterfront and financial, all with no real changes or improvements. nothing about these areas are interesting and I feel like I know these place backward and forward.

This game could of been good, but its still what I remember a piece of crap I played before. ( And yes I know about the engine upgrade, I'll try it again when It drops, then be mad at myself later).

Can be enjoyable, but can be painful

APB Reloaded gives you the chance to pay cops and robbers on two different maps, which aren't big by open world standards but are quite appropriate for APB. Turning your siren on and chasing down criminals or being on the run can be pretty fun.
You also have the ability to customise the appearance and loadout of yourself and any cars you have, including applying a wide array of decals. The extensive customisation in APB sets it apart from most MMOs.
The matchmaking/mission system also has its merits; getting into action alongside other players is easy and seamless.
Sadly this is where the good in APB ends. The pay to win phenomenon is definitely present and can be frustrating, especially if you don't have the skill of experienced players. If you're looking to buy a neat car, expect to have limited options and a bit of a grind ahead of you if you don't whip out the credit card.
All in all APB could be worth a try but might not be worth spending a lot of time on, depending of your experience.
