Everyone told me to stay away, but I wouldn't listen. But now I know why

I played for two months, and while I won't say I "rage-quit" I did spend time thinking about why, and decided the reasons to leave quite heavily outweigh the reasons to give it another chance.

    Pro's -
    - Very AAA Graphics. Really first thing you notice about the game.
    - Not bad install size for what you get for the world around you
    - "Very" large gaming areas to run around in per zones
    - Reasonably
    - Often times large community online to game with
    - Open group RAIDS that are easy to join.

    Con's -
    - Game crashes a lot. I mean "A LOT"
On my 3ghz Quadcore system with 32gbs of ram, and 2 GTX 970's in SLI it crashes usually in large open group missions. I'll be getting ready to complete an open group raid and after 15-20 minutes of being there the system will freeze and then drop me to the desktop. Sometimes I didn't even get to complete the mission for the RAID.

    - Load up times
Loading isn't an issue, unless you've crashed out in a mission or RAID and are trying to get back in. Then those 30-40 seconds are just long enough for you to fail getting back in to complete what you were trying to do

    - Antisocial Community
All you have to do is look all over Youtube for various vids of players robbing other players, killing them, and/or stealing their stuff.

While this sounds like fun if you're playing against the other faction, players of your own faction, more often than not, attack you at any time in any PVP zone. And you're forced into open PVP zones at level 30 "If" you want to keep progressing the story line and leveling using missions and dungeons.

I can't count the times I've been in an open PVP zone thinking "Now that I have someone from my faction here I'm a little safer" only to have them PVP you as soon as you turn your back on them, or as soon as they see you they start attacking you. The reasons why are endless.

    - Ships.
Ships are nice, but some of the islands that you go to don't have a way to teleport back to them once you discover them. This is to encourage you to build a use a ship. While that is fine and all, the game also encourages Piracy, even having a Pirate faction. So players from both factions can be pirate not only to the other faction, but to their side as well.

    - No real punishment for bad behavior.
As a player kills the players of their own faction they get criminal points. If a player kills too many players from their own faction they then get a debuff that tells them that the next time a player from their side kills them they'll go to jail. When that happens they can either ask for a trial or plead guilty. If they ask for a trial they "Might" get found innocent or get the maximum sentence, instead of pleading guilty and getting "half the time". It's a gamble.

Players with no criminal points can sit on a jury of 5 and rule for or against them. But here's the rub, once they get sentenced to a "time out" they get sent to a jail to server their time in game. But then the game provides them with "Spoons" in various locations inside the jail as a way to dig their way out of jail to freedom.

Once someone killed so many people that they received a "9 hour" timeout. Less than 15 minutes later they were free and back on their killing spree.

    - P2W is so heavy in this game that it's not funny.
If you want to greatly improve your armor and weapons you can do something called "regrading" them (or increasing their level).

The issue with that is your guaranteed success up to the first three levels, as long as you have acquired (or purchased) a regrade scroll of the right type (Armor, Weapon, Ship, etc). One scroll for one attempt. After that you have to purchase charms to "attempt" in addition to the scrolls to insure your success. (http://archeage.gamepedia.com/Regrading). But after level 3 the only way you can afford the cost of upgrading is to spend real world dollars getting those charms and scrolls.

You can also buy APEX packs (using real world dollars) and trade them in game for in game gold, but as of today (at the time of my writing) APEX was trading for 600'ish gold and a good level 6 weapon (what the bare minimum players are carrying in PVP) is about 2600 gold and a level 7 weapon 'starts" at 22,000 gold and I've seen them go as high as 49-50,000 depending on damage

I could go on all day on far many other issues, but the best way to sum it up is that you'll need to spend $15 a month for Patron status just to get your foot in the door. You can play without doing that, but you better have a good character item base before you try it, or you'll never be able to do much (use the Auction house, regrade items, have the "Labor" points needed to do daily activities, etc)

Even then, after you get Patron status, you'll need start spending serious money in the cash shop to upgrade you're gear. But I'd suggest getting your character maxed first as, unless your rolling in money, it will cost you enough that you're only going to want to upgrade one or two items on your character a month "if" you can afford it.

All in all I was more frustrated than I thought between the heavy P2W cash shop and the having players ganging up and PVP killing me off daily as a low level character compared to them, sometimes with a level differences of 10-15 or more. Most of of the time it was the players doing it from my own faction who did it the most in the open PVP areas because they were bored.

    That got old fast.

    Steaming Pile of disaster

This game has the largest turnover /ragequit population in the history of gaming. the base or core of the game has the best sandbox platform on the market. but the developers are a bunch of downsy tardz and have run the game straight to hell with no hopes of recovery no where in sight. Every Update gets worse and worse, every update draws a flux crowd that disipates faster than it surged usually less than a month the servers dry up, all the future updates they have planed don't look good at all, 3.5 will probably put the nail in the coffin for AA. It also has the most unbalanced PVP you will ever experience, Gear Gaps between players are massively unbalanced, the Casino Machine that requires throwing thousands of dollars into the game just to play. Many call this Game Pay2Win but this game is a HUGE cash DUMP just to PLay it, yes it is pay 2 win the more you throw into it the further ahead you will get.
i recommend everyone at least play this game for about a week just to get shit on enough to know that other games are just built and designed better. you will never know sweet unless you tasted sour.. and this is the sour of them all.

Good base game, but the devs f**** up by making the game extremely pay to win. Top that off with one of the worst communities I have ever seen in a mmo and you've got yourself one big cespool of raging trolls. The game is 50% drama and shit talking, and 50% actual gameplay. Not recommended for F2P players or anyone with a semi busy life.

    Looked Great, Played Bad

ArcheAge had me very excited when I first watched its coverage on F2P news sites. The game world was large, the map had no loading screens for the most part, yet it was a visual appealing game made on the cry engine. I played it when it was first released. The game was truly large, as I eventually gave up on the boring quest system and starting running trade packs by myself on a donkey for gold. It sounded boring but at first it was exciting. You feel like you are part of the economy, part of the world doing this. I eventually joined a guild, and the pack runs became journeys across the sea on fleets of sailing ships. It was too good to be true. It was a massive world to be able to do this and for myself I had never played a MMO with this kind of expansive immersion. My biggest issue was the combat, I enjoy games with a more fluid combat system and ArcheAge was simply not satisfying this for me. Being hit a meter away by some mod just infuriated me so I left the game. I still had friends and guild members in the game and I have heard the community has sunk to a very horrible one. Guilds would camp the ports, so that anyone leaving they would kill. The court system in place was taken advantage by trolls or members of those player killing guilds, so there was no consequences any more for player killing of the same faction. There were cheaters that would record themselves, and had proof shown to TRION and no bans were ever made. Yet TRION bans players for exploiting to kill a boss mob, what a complete joke. From what I heard TRION does not listen to the community and all that is left is a community of terrible people or trolls.

    Publishing Gone Wrong

First off I want to start out by saying the publishers killed what could of been the best mmo out there. I was so excited about this game it had crazy potential. As an upcoming game developer I was shocked that they screwed up so hard. P2W was the wrong way to go. They got greedy.

Graphics on this game are pretty darn good. The gameplay and mechanics are also good once you get a feel for the ropes. Game content was awesome. Open world without many rstrictions...pirating, house building...the options were endless. Such beautiful potential wasted.

If you were to go check it out now? The community is completely toxic. The game is practically dead minus the few established guilds/communities. The bots own the game. The developers don't seem to care about bringing it back to life....I would avoid wasting computer memory and time.

Find a similar game but this isn't worth it.

    publisher killed the game

The amount of potential in this game is INSANE, but what the publisher did is suicide, murder of great potential. If you search for mmorpg i highly suggest you avoid this p2w crap and search for mmorpg with similar things, just not trashy p2w publisher.

    Typical mmo that went p2w

The graphics are very nice. It's pretty much an open world and you can do whatever you like in it. Same for the character itself. You're not bound by anything and you can play it the way you like the most. It does take a while to get used to.
The more I played I came to realize this game went p2w. If you're not a patron, you don't get as much stuff, points, xp etc. You also only get 2 slots per server, unless you pay for it. Now that itself isn't really a problem, but not paying in this game limits you on a LOT of things. And that's not how it should be imo.
So no, not my favorite by far.

Sandbox MMO for free you say?!

Graphics are decent, character customization is also OK. But you get only 2 character slots on region! You can try this game without "Patron status" but you won't get to housing, proper farming, breeding and other things what makes sandbox a sandbox game. Now let's get to "Labor points" as f2p you get half the amount of points what the "Patrons" get and you get less XP. But you still can try to get for ingame currency "Appex packs" but their prices are rising every moment, especially at EU servers. But don't count on making a hefty gold in short while because when you craft trade or anything other than fighting, you use those "Labor points" (even when opening loot bags with random material and gold). The good thing is the sailing, but you will get there only if you are in guild and they will help you or trough very very long way before making all those packs with "Labor points" and then building the damn ship with "Labor points" again.

    Why should i play?

Archeage is an amazing once you get to know the mechanics. The community can be very helpful if one actively participates in a gathering or have friends. Otherwise , it can be a bit toxic. The gameplay itself is like any other genre of its type with leveling being quite a difficult grind at certain times. Quests help alot but they can be somewhat random in the sense that if you dont keep track of what quests you want to do in a certain order, you could find your self tediously grinding.

    Eh it's okay.

I want to say you may have a different experience the server I played on was ridiculously crowded.

The combat was fun and fast paced, getting around was difficult. and I swear that sea between the continents is evil, even if you have a ship there is no safety. the main feature I was interested in was severely limited for me due to my server so I lost interest pretty quickly. watch out as well as mobs there are griefers in this game who will pk you.

    Complex MMO

This is a complex sandbox game with a deep crafting system. A substantial part of ranching. The game also includes classic aspects like dungeons, raidbosses, etc. It is also interesting combat system, rather classic style with a combo. I do not advise too casual gamers, the game requires a lot of time.

One of the most problematic games but still worth.

Trion had a lot of problems with this game since the launch, with tons of problems.
But ArcheAge has a lot of features that will make you play it for a long time, with a funny gameplay and a nice system that allows you even to be a pirate.
A game that is both action and yet a sandbox, where you can build, craft and even sail on your ship.
ArcheAge has some problems with the money to spend, maybe, but it's worth to try, guaranteed.

    Oh, the memories.

I still remember. I was playing ArcheAge, while my friends computer was too bad to run it. What wonderful times...

The game is very detailed. This doesnt just extend to the graphics, but to the game in a whole. It was very fun while I was playing it, and while it is indeed community driven, you can easily play it alone. I can attest to this, since I was a solo player until I was invited to a guild.

Quests can vary in creativity. Some are fun jetpack testing, while other are just generic grinding quests, but even that is fun because the combat feels smooth and dynamic. That being said, the combat is very WoW like. You dont have to doge yourself, you simply use your abilities to the best of your abilities... I should become a rapper. What this means is that the combat is mostly pressing your left mouse button or 1,1,1,1,1. Its still fun, somehow.

The community is nice, nice from my perspective at least. Someone invited me to a guild, how could I complain?!

I heard that all the property got bought by bots though, so if you want a house in this game you better dont play it.

    Not your casual MMORPG

Its a "community" driven sandbox mmorpg... which means if you are a bad guy like a pirate and you get caught while doing bad things, there will be a jury and a judge who will decide if you go to jail or not... Aaand i dont want to say much about this game because i really didnt liked it. Its my own opinion but what i can say about this game is you need much time... Its not a game for casual players who game 1 or 2 hours a day. If you want to be someone or something its really intense and it ll cosume your life ^^
