There is a saying that if you want to see you're GF or BF become serious as hell when they played dota.

A lot of Players in dota are toxic as hell they curse and curse until you beat them and they will shut up.

I played Original DotA and after the announcement of Dota 2 Beta several of my friends asked me and they even gave me a beta key(s) to make me play.

My friends force me to play again and i like it.

    Dota 2 ?

This is all my opinion don't kill me i love the game but his is what i have to say about it .
I play a little game named Dota2( Defend of the ancients ) ,first it is a moba ( massive multiplayer battle arena) , the game has no story or any use of it , there is lore and if you are interesting there are a lot of interesting things you can find about the character you play .
Ok so first of all the game is very hard and punishing it has little mercy for player especially for the new ones , the game is set up like the original , 1 arena ,2 teams, 3 lanes, 5 player . The game has no variety in game mods , if you don't consider the custom game , so you will do the same thing over and over but every hero ( over 100 heroes ) plays differently and whit every hero you can play different styles , the objective of the game is to outsmart or out power the opposite team and destroy there ancient , but the ancient is protected by towers that are on all 3 lanes , you will have to destroy all the tower on 1 lane consecutive so you can even attack the enemy ancient , but at the start you will not have the power to tack on 1 tower , you will die fast , to destroy the tower there are a wave of minions that will take the damage for you but the other team will have minions to , so you will have to kill the enemy minions fast so you don't lose all your minions , killing a minion grants you gold and exp so your hero can become stronger and gold to buy the items you need to overpower your opponent , but that sounds simple right ? but don't forget there are enemy heroes that have the same objective as you , and if you defeat an enemy hero you will be granted a significant amount of exp and gold and will stop the other hero from earning any gold or exp for a period, and the hero that falls in battle will be penalized and will lose a good amount of gold , so you will lose a lot if you fail . but you are not alone in this game you are encourage to play as a team you need help to reach your objective and need to help your team , i will not compliment the community much because it is very toxic community , there are good and helpful player but there are not enough player that will do there role and/or be polite , there are new player that leave the game fast because of that , i have seen player that were very bad at the game and it is absolutely ok , they need to learn not get insulted , another good thing is that all heroes are free so you have the possibility to try all of them and there are no advantages for any player , everyone is starting whit which here they want and will have no other stats from the beginning of the game , a new player can go 1v1 agents a veteran player and they equal chances to win , the cash-shop is complicity made out of cosmetics no stat changers and if you are lucky you can ever get skins for free at random at the end of the match .
Ok to sum it up , it is a good game but little variety except the heroes that has very hard gameplay and very punishing , it's a game hard to learn and hard to master , a significant part of the community is quiet toxic , every player is equal and there an no bonuses to be bought except cosmetic skins that can be obtained if you play long enough. In my opinion it is a good game but it can be improved.

    The "Mother Moba"

This is the successor of the game that started it all (The MOBA Genre).
Dota 2 was not believed to come(HoN already existed and other Dota Clones)and Valve made the surprise by publishing it.It features the classic heroes, maps but It also has new heroes and stuff like that.I played it for some days and I had fun playing it.It is challenging because of its mechanics. My favourite has to be that I am able to kill my own creeps. It is called "Denying".I can literally troll my enemy, deny him half of the creep's experience points and all of its gold.
In conclusion,I think the game is good.It also helps the players to get better with it.You can play "The Shopkeeper's Quiz" while in queue for God's sake.Go try it :)

People in this game go hard and this means if you lose, people swear to you.

Nevertheless, the game is fun and many good players have over 2000 hours in the game

Not so good as it should be

I've played LoL, DOTA2, SMITE, HoN, HotS, Infinite Crisis, Dawngate, Game of Glory, Sins of the Dark Age, Deadbreed and some more. I'm seen a lot of MOBAs, and DOTA is most hyped and most acid MOBA of them.
The game itself is quite solid, but balance is broken as hell - and that's not a joke. I've seen few sessions, when ONE enemy hero destroyed WHOLE team few times. He stand on the enemy base, under the turrets and killed, killed, killed...
Also, you will play with AFK players all the time (in my experience, it's like 8 of 10 games were with leavers/afkers). Yeah, it's not high rating games , but still it's not very friendly for beginners.
And that's the second point - DOTA2 is very - VERY - bad for beginners. Let's look at LoL. After 15 minutes in tutorial - you are already playing your first game with bots and feeling happy. Yes, you don't know a lot about game mechanics - but you don't need it in the beginning.
There is a point, that DOTA is more skill-based, and players need to learn a lot of things, to be "godlike" players.. But in reality, it all comes to bunch of OP heroes. There is good sentence about DOTA in the web: "It's the only game, when you can already lost the game from the beginning, because of team content". Yes, if enemy team have counters for your heroes, they will crush your team in 10 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, DOTA is a good game... Awesome graphics (and high system requirements, so my friend with MacBooks can't play it), great heritage of DotA from WC3, has awesome workshop, where you can adapt different maps... But community is really toxic and unforgiving. And, for me, the game was quite boring. It's not fun to play alone. When you play with friends - it's much more interesting (like any MMOs), but without it- it's kinda boring.
Yes, you have all heroes available for free... But everyone still plays with the few of them (because if you want to play good - and you want to play good, otherwise you will be most hated person in the team - you stick to the same heroes). You have different modes (like all random, or novice friendly), but they are not popular. And in "all random" - you may stick to some not so good heroes. In this case HoN, LoL and SMITE are more fair - you use only those heroes, that you want (and maybe a little more, from free queue).
So this is just choice of personal preferences. For me DOTA2 just one of many other MOBAs, decent, but not the best one.
P.S. One thing that I don't like in DOTA2 is instalock abilities. You cast an ability - and forget about it, if will hit your enemy even if he run away from it like a wind. A lot of my friends said, that DOTA 2 gives them "WOW!"-feeling, when they destroy the enemy team.. But in case of "That was my skill" - SMITE is better (because even your attacks are skill-shots :D)

If you wanna play MOBA this is it.

I rated the community lowest and i would rate any mobas community to lowest. Competative games like these combined with kids = worse community one can see. That aside dota is the GREATEST MOBA. If you wanna start a MOBA there is no other choice. Sure you can argue league smite or hots, but the ultimate moba is dota, simple as that.

This is a good game to play with your friends as team. But some people in the game community are always complaining about other players that are not good as them, so they try to ban all the bad players for being bad.

    Prepare to forget about society!

    About DotA2:
One of the well known games of today, Defense of the Ancients (DotA). It was originally a Warcraft 3 mod which created a whole new genre of games in which we all grew to love and hate; MOBAs. It was created by Icefrog who were then hired by Valve to create a game of their own, DotA 2.

    What is a MOBA?
MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Basically, you get paired up with 4 other people to fight against 5 enemies. In order to win you must work together, farm for items, murder, and some considerably violent stuff in order to destroy the enemy's "Core" or "Ancients" (who they're willing to fight an eternity for) and ultimately win.

What makes the game worth playing?
If you're a big fan of team based games and Real Time Strategy (RTS) then this game is definitely a game you'll grow to love. It takes quite a bit of time to be able to play the game without dying a lot but once you do, it's very rewarding.

Unlike other MOBAs, DotA lets you play all 100+ heroes without paying! You can play the whole game without having to spend a single dime. However, you're free to do so if you wish to customize your favourite hero which can cost quite a bit.

The graphics are quite good, especially since they're using the new Source 2 engine. To top it off the game isn't heavy at all and can run on Toaster PCs.

Each games will probably be different and you'll always have something to learn. There's also ranked matches which is basically progression. Ultimately, most people try to rank themselves in a higher rank so they can play competitions and gain bragging rights. Mechanics changes a lot by each patch and it'll always shake things up, especially with over 100+ heroes to play with. Even if you dislike/get bored of the game, there are thousands of mods that can change the game to a whole new type of game.

Why should you avoid this game like a plague?
If you don't like RTS, MOBAs (such as League of Legends or Heroes of the Storm) then this is not the game for you. A game usually takes more than 30 minutes and requires a lot of dedication.

The community, like most MOBAs, are pretty toxic and will not treat newbies kindly. (Though there are some who does). It's still a very, very harsh place.

    Conclusion:
The game is worth picking up (it's free!) and overall very fun. Don't let the community deter you from playing since there are still some people who are friendly! (Made a few friends myself.)

Defense of the Ancient 2, everybody knows it.

DotA 2 is a MOBA successor from the original warcraft 3 mod. This MOBA gives you full access right after you registered (well, except for ranked). 100++ heroes are given to you, and you can use them all anytime you want (assuming your teammates are okay with it). Winning a battle in DotA 2 require some patience and control over the battlefield. That said, DotA 2 is Hard to Learn, and Harder to master (is this right?). The learning curve is extremely steep for someone who just started playing it. Other than that, DotA 2 is truly free to play MOBA game, even the costumes are purely aesthetic, and none of them are something like "revealing" costume like any other games had (yet). Although, the community can be a bit toxic, depending with whom will you play, friends are suggested to play this.

    DOTA 2 the TRUE Successor

You Love MOBA's? Love a FREE game where nothing is restricted to you.

Continually being balanced and they truely listen to the community, based off the original MOBA , being DOTA and lives up to it. Great game and when you want a break try any of the Custom games from tower defences, rpg's, arena matches and Pudge Wars.

    No limitations, maximum MOBA.

DOTA 2 is a well-known MOBA. Being the sequel to the game that got the genre started, you can expect the standard three lane styled gameplay. That said, DOTA 2 offers all of its heroes available to you right off the back, providing one of the best free to play experiences in the industry. Want a more complex experience than say League of Legends? DOTA 2 has that as well with more complex mechanics, making every movement count within battle. An A+ title.
