“Danger Will Robinson”... Run Away From This Game!!

Neverwinter has lots going for it, but the volunteer and paid support staff have a serious dark undertone and high school clique mentality, that verges on what could be considered a hate crime campaign against those who are different!

I naively believed that in a world who constantly promotes the terms "Diversity and Tolerance", that our faith centered family, friendly guild, would be considered part of the protected Diversity umbrella... but I stand corrected :-((

Because our Guild leader pointed out in the official Neverwinter forums, that the ARC Quests for PC (a free way to make Zen/Game Money) were removed from our sign in page, and that a community moderator was being dishonest in posting her replies, saying that “the ARC Quests would return shortly", then the volunteer moderator waged a defensive war to silence our Guild leader... (FYI months later, still no ARC Quests for PC, so you can see who has something to hide!)

In fact they even went to the point to ban everyone who our guild leader played with online, from the forum as well... Now because we all got together and wrote ARC Game Support, about the blanket forum posting ban of almost 30 toons, they are now threatening to ban our guild leader (and all of us) from the game completely, to cover their hate practices of our guild and commitment to truth with honesty!

Our guild never asked for this... Dishonesty and deception within the ARC community staff, simply would rather ban 30 toons, than be honest and end the hate campaign!

It is sad the undeniable influence Hate Mongers have, in a modern professionally designed game world, when no one in cooperate has any concern for truth, or even our legally protected rights to be different! It's like our guild stronghold has turned into a Concentration Camp, and we are all waiting for the hate campaigner's gas to be turned on! (What ever happened to “Never Forget”???)

If respect, peaceful diversity, and Truth is something you support, don't expect to be supported by Neverwinter or any of the ARC games at this time:-((

    Well-balanced game

Neverwinter is a well-balanced f2p MMO! It lives up to it's D&D reputation with a few flaws here and there.

It has a really nice story with good character progression and lots.....lots of dungeons.

Neverwinter is great... with nice graphics, great gameplay and a very friendly community (with occasional trolls ofc).

The reason it doesn't deserve 5 stars it's because of the company behind it.
Unfortunately PWE is known for neglecting major issues in their games.

So I wanted to love this game, I really, really did. In the end, I just can't recommend it in the current state.

    Pros -
If you loved the forgotten realms books, and setting for DnD you will feel like you just walked in. They really did a great job of capturing the essence of the world.

The character leveling system is intuitive, and things are explained fairly, if briefly.

The game isn't really Pay to Win in that you can if you try hard get everything a paying player could.

The combat is fun, and diverse. You can learn many different skills and slot the right ones for a situation, and make a build you play well.

The playerbase is amazing, at times. No one complains about kill stealing, most people I encountered were friendly and helpful, and I never once had problems finding a group to take on a quest. As a soloer the part I really liked, no one whined when the group immediately disbanded after the quest it formed around was completed.

The quests for getting to max level are interesting, diverse, and straightforward. I very rarely was confused by anything laid before me, and found the game fun to play. Until I hit max level.

    Cons -
The servers lag like you wouldn't believe. The amount of rubberbanding and failure to accept inputs is just ridiculous. This really becomes painful in combat where the situation gets worse. I played as a rogue, as a rogue you have very limited armor, and very good dodging ability. A skilled player can dodge nearly any attack because of how the game shows them to you, well, you could if the game wasn't constantly lagging. Half the time I would go through the dodge animation and take the damage anyways finding myself now out of position, and half dead because the server couldn't decide if I dodged in time, so decided I dodged, but too late.

Remember that thing about 'technically not pay to win'? I'm about to take that back. Admittedly, it is technically possible through the game to get a reasonable amount of Astral Diamonds, the currency of the player based economy, and exchange them for Zen, the currency you buy with real money. This can be done all through the game. The problem is they are undergoing a major AD revision trying to rebalance the economy. This means that a new player just starting out will find getting any reasonable amount of AD together in a timely fashion nearly impossible. Players haven't adapted to the new scarcity of AD yet, so all pricing is still way overinflated for what you get. This problem may eventually sort itself out, but as of this review it has not.

Max level is a horror show for a new player. There's no good way to put this. When you are leveling up from 1-70 your character 'fits' it's role. If you're going for pure DPS you can put up some huge numbers, and work well in a team. I've heard similar from clerics, support, and tanks. You feel like you fit in a group right where you should. From the time I hit level 30 I was constantly at the top of the damage charts for any given dungeon, usually #1, sometimes #2. How it should be for a dedicated DPSer. The second you hit 70 kiss your role goodbye. You are now in the part of the game known as hell. You don't have the gear to do well in any dungeon, or even any of the lvl 70 questing areas. Some players won't want to drag you along, some will flat out insult you and leave you to rot. You are expected to find a way, by hook or crook to get your item level up to a competitive level, and no one, and nothing in game is going to tell you how. The game itself won't tell you item level matters, other players will. But they can't really help you get it up, because they don't know how you can do so either.

Those beautiful quests I mentioned that lead you straight up the levels until you're ready for end game content? They run out just before you hit level 70, actually I started during a 2x experience event, and I ran out of quests at level 68. I didn't want to put in the time to test, but I suspect without that advantage of 2x experience you might run out sooner. It also has to be mentioned that the developers made one of the most bone-headed decisions I've ever seen. They're trying to revamp all the end zone dungeons. As a result, they removed all the old dungeons. In and of itself this isn't a real problem. It makes for less dungeons available as you grow, but you can manage. Here's the big problem. They left all of the quest lead-ins and references to events in place. If you're following the quests along you will suddenly hit a 'party needed' quest that can never be completed because the zone for the quest no longer exists. This all stems from a recent increase in the level cap. They increased the level cap, but never changed the associated xp rewards to get you there, never changed the references to level requirements in tips, and never bothered to think of how that is going to impact new players.

The 'crafting system' or what passes for one, professions, are a joke. It is a tiered system of hire people to do things for you. But the catch, always a catch, you can't directly hire the best guys. They're items, you have to find them, or buy them. I won't comment on how easy they are to find beyond saying in the time I played I only found 1 green level, and 1 blue level worker, both for professions I wasn't currently training. I will say buying them is god awful expensive. So why bother? Gear is limited in choices in this game. The best rings you can wear, you have to craft. There's no getting around it that I was able to discover as the items bind to the character. Same for the highest tier armors.

That brings me to my next point. You want to pass on that lovely sword you've been slicing kobolds with to a new character? You want to maybe sell the old one to finance your new one? Too bad. You can't. Once an item is equipped to a character it is permenantly bound to that character. At which point you have three choices. Equip it. Unequip it. Sell it to a vendor for a handful of silver that is vastly less than the item is worth. That's it. Those are your options with anything you've ever used for even the shortest amount of time. You can sell equipment you find, but only if you do not ever use it yourself.

Everything FEELS like a cash grab. I will not say this is intentional, I have no idea what the developers were thinking. Everything from the way equipment works, to the way you feel underpowered the moment you hit max level, to the fact that your 'end game' healing potions heal for a fraction of your health and they sell an upgrade in the zen shop but no other way to get them. The game feels like a cash grab. Hell, even the servers being on their last legs, and barely able to take the strain of running the game makes it feel like they just want to make a buck and bail out quickly.

I wanted to love this game. I grew up with the forgotten realms books, I knew the setting and felt right at home. I wanted to at least like this game. But the truth is, this game is broken, back-loaded, and feels like an attempt to extract money from gamers.

My recommendations are as follows: If you find the setting interesting, as I did, play until you hit level 70 and quit. Do not under any circumstances give these people money.

Neverwinter - Action packed Dungeons & Dragons gameplay

I am a Wizard, a Half-Elf from the Northdark. I have been on many adventures, many solo, many with companions. It seems that there is no shortage of adventure in Faerun, no shortage of evil trying to take over the land and lay waste to the Jewel of the North. It hasn't been easy, equipping myself with epic spoils and legendary artifacts.. but I have enjoyed every moment of it.

There are always willing adventurers to party with, and the more experienced are always willing to share their wisdom. There are many dungeons to crawl, and always a skirmish breaking out somewhere.
I sometimes find myself in Arena matches, battling it out for domination and glory. It is all good fun, and good for honing skills.

The variety of things to keep one occupied in Neverwinter is vast, and always growing. When you feel ready for a higher calling, you can join a Guild and take part in fortifying/defending their keep.

Yes, it is good to be a Wizard in Neverwinter. Come and join me in adventure, it will cost you nothing, and you won't regret it!

    Good game with potential

When I first started to play this game I was a bit Sceptical. They advertised it as a free to play MMO , but after falling for that once to often I did not believe it. Never the less I tried it and to my great surprise this is truly a FREE MMO.

I have been playing this game now since the beginning and if you know how you can obtain anything in the game without paying a cent.

This game release new mods every 4-5 months keeping the end game players in the game.

Classes. The classes in this game is well though out and very fun to play(I have a character of every class). There is however a big class imbalance the GWF can solo all content in the game at high level where the other classes find it difficult to complete the high end dungeons. When you play any class other that the GWF(Great Weapon Fighter) and attempt Epic Cragmire crypts You better have a well chosen group.

The guild system gives your guild access to its own upgradable map. Where only you and your guild can take on the dragons for high end gear. This is great fun and even though I am in a small guild and already have the Dragon Flight gear I still jump at every chance to take down those dragons

This game have had some bad reviews due to the failed mod called Elemental evil . I never really disliked it as much as others, but I do understand why people was complaining. Since the failed mod the team from Neverwinter have done a lot to repair the problems of that Mod and a new player might not even realise the reason for the frustration of the old time campaigners.

To me this is really a great game and I will recommend it to anyone that ask me.

    Pro
    Fun, exciting game
    Guild mates are awesome
    Completely Free to play.
    Regular mods

    Cons
DDOS attack can get bad sometimes
    Spam in chat (gold sellers)
Communication between developers and community is bad
Some dungeon end bosses can be glitched in order to win.

Neverwinter - neverending fun and bugs.

Neverwinter is MMORPG heavily effected from neverwinter nights rpg as you can understand from its name. You start with rolling your caracters' attributes and giving him a backside story which feels nostalgic and uniquely entertaining at the same time. Then you start to your adventure from a shipwreck in a coast. Then make your way into your new life as an adverturer. I highly recommend this game if you are looking for new combat mechanics, fun events and many stuff to catch on. This game is f2p with in game cash market but with lots of farming and stuff you can get every single item in the cash market for free. The only downside of the game is since it is f2p balancing and debugging is slow as hell. There is a dungeon named castle never which stayed bugged like 4 years. But this problem is still managable you just go another dungeon or do something else. Moreover Neverwinter has a really active playerbase. Thus go for it if you havent tried it yet.

    Fast Paced 4.0 D&D

Great game, based on D&D's 4.0 Forgotten Realms setting
    Action packed and fast paced
Very good and somewhat diverse character leveling options, you can adapt your skills to the situation
Good PVP though sometimes it can be a bit repetitive
Truly free-to-play, you pay mostly for customizations, some extra races, companions and mounts (which don't have a that great impact on gameplay), and buffs to speed up your progression, though you can get them all (except for exclusive founder items and such) through grinding if you think it's worth your time

play it, simple as that, if you're a Dungeons & Dragons fan pick it up, despite the worries I had that it would end up like Dungeons & Dragons online I was pleasantly surprised when they didn't do what turbine did, while I have misgivings on the class choices available, it's a fun little game to kill time in while you're bored with others. I would have liked it better if they stuck with the traditional class choices.

While not the best, it's one of the best f2p games that you have to try.

    The good

    Lovely graphics.
Full voice acting quests. Quests are also good and most are interesting too.
Unique approach. At times it feels more of an arpg with a community hub, than an mmo.
    Enjoyable events.
Foundry!! I find foundry to be one of the best things happened to gaming in recent years, no overreacting here. You can have an endless source of quests, dungeons and adventures, all made from users. I hope other games will follow this example.

    The meh/bad

While it's not pay2win, it does need a big amount of time playing to get basic upgrades.
It's not very hard. While plays normal for an arpg, it does feel easy and doable for an mmorpg.
I've invested more than 160 hours and I can say I got back a nice and at times, unforgettable experience. It's not your average mmo as it tries to mix many things together, but the result is nice and it does its job done. It offers a nice gaming time in a beautiful crafted world. Try it, after all it's free.

    Great game for casual players!!

I started playing this game 2 years ago and I'm still playing Neverwinter up till now..the game has a great community that helps you if you're new to the game and there's a lot of people playing the game so you will always have someone to do your dungeons, raids and so on..The action combat of the game is fluid and easy to learn for MMORPG beginners..However i don't think Neverwinter is a game suited for hardcore players..Give it a try definitely worth it.

    Neverwinter-F2P but even so

looks good but falls short.biggest problem with this game is the development team.the developers dont seem to understand the needs of the players (this is reflected in simple things like AD banking and reward transfers within player account) and the constant "updates" of dungeons is a pain.the hacking is rampant and makes play a problem at times.

    This is not Neverwinter Nights

This game has nothing to do with Neverwinter Nights apart from the D&D world they share. I was honestly drawn to this title because of the Bioware classic Neverwinter Nights, and the game has nothing to do with it. Heavily instance based, and I was also looking for openworld roaming. Combat system looks okay. Graphics was not impressive.

One of the best fantasy games around, if you like the D&D Neverwinter world you can just enjoy this action mmo, located in a lot of languages (as italian i find this a MUST) and with a graphic that works on a lot of computers, which is always nice for an mmo :P.
The only bad thing i saw is the complicate part when you have to choose new talents or changing some, that force you to buy something at the shop, but aside from new classes and something more, you can totally enjoy this game!

One of the Better FREE Multiplayer Games

This game is pretty sweet; the graphics are great and the world has a magical essence that I do love. The cities and maps in general really brought me to this game and didn't disappoint! The combat is really fluid and allows you to take a more active role as opposed to some MMOs that have a more turn based style of fighting. Quests are voice acted and pretty fun for the most part if not repetitive.

Great game to give a shot, maybe even stick around

Neverwinter is a very well made game. For the most part it is a typical MMO experience but it's the little things that make it stand above the rest. The action element is really refreshing and the classes are interesting. The really fun parts are the player made content. Basically anyone can pick up the games level editor and create their own custom level. It really keeps it fresh with new content to try out. All in all great experience!

This is one of my Top 3 games of all time. The game enviorment just drops you in that amazing atmosphere. The world brings you that feeling of "What's next !!! I want to progress and see evrything !". Every class feels soo good to play and the most interesting part are the quests which are made by the own players. The game developers knew what they were doing because they were real gamers too. The ammount of gifts i got for this game is enourmous, packs and packs of goodies, mounts and companions. Overally the game leaves you with the satisfaction at the end even if you had completed everything. Well spent time of my life

If you enjoy Dungeons and Dragons play this game. It has great, well written quests that lead your character along. It is easy to level up your character and what each skill and ability does is well defined. Also the crafting system is very interactive and makes you feel you have a crew of individuals building things for you. It is a must play for any fan.

Neverwinter home of hackers, and the mods who do nothing about it.

I really like this game other than the fact that it is hacked over and over again, and PWE does nothing about it. Played game at release and AH was tainted by a miss code giving those who chose to cheat millions of AD. What did they do? Nothing. To make up for the now infamous event called Caturday they gave a few items, and let most people keep the AD they made from this by selling pet cats, so they didnt get caught. Many things like this has happened over the last few years in the game and nothing major was done about it. Every time I go back to this game something has either just happened or is happening to make cheaters rich and those who choose to play legit behind because we can not afford items in AH because we do not have the AD to afford the good things. I will go back to this game over time because I do enjoy the game, just wish they took cheating more serious.
