An excellent, free alternative to Diablo.

Surprisingly challenging, but once you get into it you'll find that the game's ability gems and vast skill web allows for a whole lot of tinkering your character into a real monster mulcher. It's also one of the strongest examples of an actual free-to-play business model - the entire game, and every major expansion added, doesn't cost a penny, the only thing you actually pay for being various purely cosmetic fluff that helps you stand out amongst the crowd. Just be warned that a good, stable connection is required to play, as it doesn't handle lag very well.

Too Dark and gritty for me

As previous reviewrs stated, this game is just like Diablo but free.

I don't play games like this because of the dark, horror like themes but it looks very promising

    f2p version of Diablo

I started playing this game because it is a f2p game. I didn't play it for long though. A friend recommended me this game, because it's "like Diablo". Which is definitely true, but so disappointing if you compare them.
I found it mostly just repetitive and therefore I didn't bother paying attention to the story. So to me it wasn't appealing at all.

    Path of (mild) Excitement

Have you ever heard anybody compare this game to Diablo? If not, welcome to the internet. In all fairness, the hack and slash style is there, the similarities are there. But that's not a battle PoE would lose so easily.
PoE is a well crafted game that reflects the love for hack&slack the developers and gamers have. Its gameplay is fast paced, the skill tree is huge (and easy to get lost trying to figure out how to max out and specialize your character), and your skills are equipped in your weapons, overall making its combat system complex and entertaining.
Of course, the never ending hordes of enemies might become a bit repetitive, but it's an aspect you can easily forget if you play in a party. A party means a pre-generated map area for your party alone, so your happy group can peacefully slay foes.
PoE is a great game if you have friends to play with. Alone, well, it gets a bit repetitive.
Another feature of PoE is its lack of Pay to Win, or even to make your character look cool. There are certain things you can buy, but are not that impressive.
Adding up to a nice community, this game might entertain you a long while with its interesting world and story.

    Good game but repetitive gameplay

So I probably should've played this game for a longer time but I get tired of games pretty easily. As far as I know this game has 3 difficulty modes: Normal, Cruel and Merciless. I only played until half of Cruel and as much as I liked the game it was getting too repetitive. The story of the game, which is in my opinion one of the best stories I've ever seen, consists of 4 Acts, each one in a different location with different enemies and a final Boss. You can play as seven different classes, though only six are available at the start of the game and you can unlock the seventh, the Scion, in Act 3. Though there are classes, you can pretty much build them however you want. One of the best qualities of this game is it's skill tree, which is very vast. The max level is 100 and you can spend around 120 skill points on the skill tree. Skills do not come with the class, you have to get a gem with the skill you want and equip it on the slot of a weapon. Another great thing about this game is the fact that there is no real currency. Players use Orbs that you can drop from monsters as currency but this Orbs are also useful to use on items. For example a Chaos Orb can buy a lot of things but it can also be used to reroll the stats of a weapon or piece of armor of Rare quality. The worst thing about the game in my opinion is that the gameplay is very repetitive. For example in my playthrough I played as Witch and focused on using the gem with the Spell Firestorm and all I had to do was spam it to kill everything I had to kill while I had the Raise Zombies spell active to get my zombies to tank for me. I'm not sure if it was a viable build since some of the players said I shouldn't rely on hybrid builds but it worked really well. This made the gameplay kind of boring and easy. I didn't play on Merciless so I can't say it is easy in that difficulty but I doubt it is. I played until Act 3 in Cruel and I only had some difficulties on the Act 2 Final Boss. All in all it's a solid game, the community is amazing, a lot of people offered me help and gave me some free items that really helped me, and there pretty funny people talking in the Global chat. But the truly best thing about this game is the voice acting, it is really really good. I'd rate this game 7/10 and I'm eagerly anticipating Act 5, for now I don't think I'll be touching the game since I only really liked the story.

Path of Extremely Well Developed Exiles Review

The Diablo that we didn't know we wanted.

Not the most beautiful game but everything from the mechanics , gameplay, combat, trade, and community is downright addicting. 10/10 would marathon 12 hours straight again.

    The true Diablo III

Path of Exile is far better than Diablo III as a Diablo title! But not as a hack n slay. Diablo III got better graphics, action, impressive skills but it lacks the atmosphere... and they chose the worst story they could... anyways Path of Exile is in a more dark and unforgiving world. Its not so easy like other hack n slays, there is much you could do wrong while you progress in the game. There were weekly/monthly or daily seasons i think where you could win special items or gain points to spend them on the homepage for special loot if i remember it right. So it has interesting content but the endgame is just grinding as it is in every Hack n Slay game. If you search for a game with a dark and grim atmosphere than you cant go wrong with this game but if you look for a shiny game with high end graphics, fast progress and easy rewards then you should look for something else.

    Good Diablo substitute

This game started amazingly at first. It was the Diablo game that Diablo 3 failed to give us. But then they started to adjust a few thing here and there and they actually made the game a bit less enjoyable. It is still a great game though.

Not as good as people hype it up to be.

This game is good, I wouldn't say it's the best F2P out there. The gameplay is okay, community isn't really the best but there are few people who are really amazing and will go out of the way to help you. It's just not really my cup of tea...
