Well, can’t exactly say that I saw this one coming. Sure, Wildstar hadn’t been the “WoW killer” than a subset of people thought it’d be. Sure, the switch to free-to-play did okay, but didn’t exactly breathe new life into the game (for long.) But Carbine seemed to be working on other projects, but I guess those plans never came to fruition.
According to Kotaku, staff learned of the closure just today during a meeting, and with the end of Carbine also comes the end of Wildstar. Other rumors swirl that NCsoft wasn’t too interested in anything else Carbine was working on, so I guess when that’s the case, it’s time to close up shop.
Wildstar’s shop is now closed, but if you spent money on the game after July 1st, then expect a refund.
