Grinding Gear Games, the minds behind Path of Exile, announced today that Tencent had acquired a majority stake in the company, 80% to be exact. To put it simply, they own the company now.
Chris Wilson, CEO of GGG, took to Reddit to post a brief FAQ to assure players that this is not at all a nightmare scenario, and that Tencent will be hands off of game development.
Tencent, after all, has a hand in League of Legends, as well as Activision (Blizzard), and those companies seem to be doing fine, but only time will tell if that’s the case of Path of Exile as well. Chris Wilson also throws in that 4.0.0 is planned to go into closed beta in 2020.
