Magic Duels lived fast and died young. Wizards of the Coast announced a couple months back that their free-to-play card game would be put to rest so that other games might live. You can still play Magic Duels, but it won’t be receiving any more updates.
It seems pretty clear at this point that Wizards of the Coast did this move in order to make way for their new game, which they revealed today by means of a tweet. Magic the Gathering; Arena isn’t much more than that at this point, a tweet. But if I were a betting man (I’m not, but if I were) I’d wager than MTG Arena would almost certainly be a free-to-play card game of some sort.
